Just take Track Pack GT, rebadge, class it the F**K up (with REAL premium design and materials not the usual Lincoln dress-up kit), write Cougar (or CougarMK or MKougarZ or whatever) on the back, and BAM! Instant 911 competitor. They need not waste their time on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! anymore:

Considering the original Cougar was based on the Mustang, I say this is a decent idea.

I like this idea, but I'm not seeing how it would at all be a 911 competitor...

the think split grill actually looks good in that first picture. Iv always found it ugly on almost everything else they make

The Cougar was a Mustang - it was badge engineering.

This would be a pretty straightforward idea. The platform would at least make for a more credible luxury car basis than the old live axle versions, and it would give Flat Rock some extra scale. They could also call it the MC6 (assuming they do the smart thing and eventually rename sedans as "MKx" and crossovers as "MTx").

Well, yeah.

Nahhhhh I'm good. If anything bring back the Mark name. Mark VIIII or simply Mark IX either or would be better than giving it a name from a Mercury.
Seeing as the Continental concept is out I'm hoping a Mark project is in the works for an American Luxury GT car. Nice two door luxury that doesn't care about 'Ring times.

Lincoln Mark IX would be much smarter and align with the Continental

If the whole range had a subdued grille (this is better, but not quite there) they'd sell more cars. Restyle them all, and make some pretty things.

I think that's what he meant

Same!

I always thought MK meant or at least alluded to Mark

only joking :o)

OK - I am old enough to remember when the cars were identical but for badges, wheelcovers, and ... not much else.
And I think there was a point in the 80s when the Thunderbird and the Cougar had the same badges as well.

I thought the Zephyr wore it best. It belongs in that era

You might be on to something :o)

figured so, the words "911 competitor" are thrown around so often these days hahaha

Yep, I'm old enough too. It was the late 70's early 80's T-Bird & Cougars, before they went from dorky to cool.
I've always liked the aerodynamic make over of the Cougar/T-Bird, with the Cougar being the better looker of the two.

When the Zephyr was first renamed "MKZ", Lincoln reps did originally tell everyone to pronounce it "Mark Zee", then thought better of the idea and quickly changed it to "Em Kay Zee".

You and I are on the same wavelength. Just make it a big GT car great for road trips.

They crossed the streams. You never should cross the streams.

Why would Lincoln bring back a Mercury name plate? That would be lIke Chevy reviving the Firebird nameplate.
![]() 04/07/2015 at 07:33 |

I think calling it a Mark VIII or Mark IX would do just fine.

I like the idea, but it needs a waterfall grille.

1st: The original Cougar was based on a Mustang, so why not?
2nd: Many companies interchange nameplates across brands around the world (Acura/Honda NSX, Ford Cougar Europe, Ford Capri)
3rd: I would say its more like Buick reviving the Cutlass nameplate, and whats wrong with that? Who doesn't want a modern 442?
4th: Why do Camaro and Firebird guys get butt-hurt over each other? I don't get all the controversy over this:
I don't think Pontiac would do much different if it were still aroud
